The works in this collection were submitted by art studios from across North Korea to the 1992 celebrations marking the founding of the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture on September 3, 1952.

They include Chosonhwa paintings that vividly depict celebrated Korean mountains and landscapes, from Paektu, Kumgang, Myohyang and Chilbo to Inner Kumgang and Sea Kumgang, by artists bearing the titles People's Artist, Merited Artist, Master Artist and First-Class Artist.

Also exhibited were oil paintings, prints, watercolors, gold-pigment paintings, embroidery, and copies of Joseon-period works by artists such as Danwon Kim Hong-do and Gyeomjae, whose originals are held in the national art museum in Pyongyang. With authorization from Yanbian (permit no. 31343-96), the works formally cleared customs on January 26, 2001 (declaration no. 040-21-2001-003817).

The works remain in a private collection. The original collection notes describe an increase in North Korean art entering South Korea during a period of improved inter-Korean relations, while emphasizing that this collection was imported through formal channels.
