Pyo Se-jong
People's Artist
Born in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, in July 1929.
Graduated from Musashino Art University in Tokyo in 1954.
Taught art at Tokyo Korean Junior and Senior High School until 1962, then moved to North Korea and worked at the South Hamgyong Art Workshop and in the provincial Korean Artists' Union.
Worked in a creative studio at the South Hamgyong Provincial Art Studio from 1982.
Awarded the title of Merited Artist for his creative achievements in 1986.
Pyo Se-jong approached oil painting with seriousness, striving to depict the concrete details of life truthfully and realistically.
His work is described as honest and direct, expressing ordinary people's feelings with an accessible quality, without needless technical display or excessive formalism.
